Sen. Lindsey Graham admitted Tuesday that a plastic surgery joke he made about House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi during a private fundraiser was a “poor attempt at humor.”

Mr. Graham’s apology comes after Bloomberg reported that he told donors Mrs. Pelosi was disgusted by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s Tuesday speech, which was highly protested by Democrats.

“Did you see Nancy Pelosi on the floor? Complete disgust,” the South Carolina Republican reportedly said. “If you can get through all the surgeries, there’s disgust.”

Mr. Graham later apologized for the remark, calling it a “poor attempt at humor,” The New York Times reported.

“Sen Graham RE: Pelosi’s reaction to @netanyahu’s address today: “I just think that her reaction in the chamber was a bit disturbing,” NBC’s Frank Thorp tweeted.

Mrs. Pelosi, 74, has faced questions about plastic surgery before but has never addressed the subject publicly, The Times reported.
