Rep. Jason Chaffetz, Utah Republican and chairman of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee, said Wednesday his frustration over Tuesday’s vote in Congress to fund the Department of Homeland Security was with Senate Democrats and not Speaker John A. Boehner.
“We don’t think we should actually have to fund something that the president 22 times said that he couldn’t do,” Mr. Chaffetz said on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe,” pointing to a federal judge’s putting the brakes on President Obama’s most recent deportation amnesty
“Why should we have to include that in the funding bill? I think that was wrong,” he said.
Asked if he felt betrayed by Mr. Boehner for putting it on the floor — the bill was passed without a majority of Republican support — Mr. Chaffetz said no and that he was frustrated by Senate Democrats, who filibustered measures funding the department that included language rolling back Mr. Obama’s executive actions.
“Look, we’re very supportive of the speaker who’s in a very difficult spot,” he said. “Again, my frustration is with the Democrats, not with Speaker Boehner.”
