Georgetown guard D’Vauntes Smith-Rivera is skipping his senior year and will submit his name for the NBA draft.
Coach John Thompson III announced Smith-Rivera’s decision Tuesday via a press release.
“D’Vauntes has decided to enter the NBA Draft,” Thompson said. “He has given a great deal to this program and we will do everything we can to help him pursue his goals.”
As a junior, Smith-Rivera led Georgetown with 16.3 points and 3.2 assists per game, was second in the Big East with an 86.1 free throw percentage and was selected to the all-Big East first team. The Indianapolis native had nine 20-point games this season, became the 45th player to surpass 1,000 points in his career and ranks 18th in school history with 1,386 career points.
Georgetown went 22-11 this season, 12-6 in the Big East, and claimed a No. 4 seed in the NCAA tournament, where it lost to No. 5 seed Utah in its second game. The Hoyas, in and out of The Associated Press top 25 all season, were ranked No. 22 in the final poll.
