President Obama will travel to Kenya in July to attend the annual Global Entrepreneurship Summit, the White House announced Monday.
The gathering, held each year since 2009, brings together business and government leaders from around the world. This year will mark the first time the summit has been held in sub-Saharan Africa.
The visit will be Mr. Obama’s fourth trip to sub-Saharan Africa as president and he will hold one-on-one meetings with other world leaders while in Kenya, administration officials said.
The summit will come almost a year after the administration hosted the first U.S.-Africa Leaders Summit last August in Washington.
“His trip will build on the success of the August 2014 U.S.-Africa Leaders Summit and continue our efforts to work with countries in sub-Saharan Africa, including Kenya, to accelerate economic growth, strengthen democratic institutions, and improve security,” White House press secretary Josh Earnest said in a statement.
