It didn’t take long for the Democratic infighting to start after Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid announced Monday that he would retire next year.

Less than two hours after the Nevada Democrat announced his retirement plans, the liberal MoveOn.org Political Action attacked Sen. Charles E. Schumer, the Senate’s No. 3 Democrat and a possible successor to Mr. Reid.

The group said his support of an Iran sanctions bill should disqualify the New York Democrat.

It said the legislation undermines President Obama’s negotiations with Iran to end its nuclear weapons program.

“Supporting reckless legislation that undermines President Obama’s diplomacy with Iran and risks a dangerous, unnecessary war in the Middle East should disqualify anyone from leading the Senate Democratic caucus,” said Ilya Sheyman, the group’s executive director.

“Sen. Schumer needs to withdraw his support from the … legislation,” demanded Mr. Sheyman.

Meanwhile, Democracy for America, a liberal activist group trying to recruit Sen. Elizabeth Warren of Massachusetts into the 2016 presidential election contest, said that if she doesn’t run for president, then she should run for leader of the Senate.

Neil Sroka, a spokesman for the group, said that the election for the next Senate Democratic leader “shouldn’t be a slam dunk for any early front-runner, especially someone closer to Wall Street while the Wall Street wing of the party is dying and the Elizabeth Warren wing is rising.”
