Several possible GOP presidential contenders are scheduled to appear at the FAMiLY LEADER’s Southeast Family Leadership Regional Summit in Mount Pleasant, Iowa, on April 9, as potential candidates look to shore up their support among social conservatives in the early presidential state.
The group said that former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee, Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal, former Texas Gov. Rick Perry and former Sen. Rick Santorum of Pennsylvania are confirmed for the event at Iowa Wesleyan College.
On the Republican side, Mr. Huckabee won the Iowa caucuses in 2008, and Mr. Santorum came from behind to win the state in the GOP’s 2012 presidential nominating contest.
As more candidates approach decisions on White House bids in 2016, the Hawkeye State can expect a steady stream of visitors.
Sen. Ted Cruz, Texas Republican, recently announced he’s running for president and is scheduled to be in Iowa next week. And Sen. Rand Paul of Kentucky, who is expected to announce his intentions soon, recently announced that he will be in Iowa on April 10 as part of a national “Stand with Rand” tour.
The Iowa GOP also recently announced that a host of potential contenders — including Mr. Santorum, Mr. Perry and Mr. Jindal — will be at its Lincoln Dinner in May. Also scheduled to attend are former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush, Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker, Sen. Lindsey Graham of South Carolina, former Hewlett-Packard CEO Carly Fiorina and retired neurosurgeon Ben Carson.
