Thai junta leader Prayuth Chan-ocha said Wednesday that journalists who don’t report the news to his liking might be executed.

When asked by reporters how he would deal with combative news outlets, Mr. Prayuth said in a matter-of-fact tone “We’ll probably just execute them.”

“You don’t have to support the government, but you should report the truth,” he added, Reuters reported Wednesday.

The former army chief took over in a coup last May. Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra’s government was dissolved by the ruling junta, known as National Council for Peace and Order.

“Don’t think I don’t know that your writing is pro the previous administration,” the prime minister told a Matichon reporter in January, Reuters reported. “The previous Interior Ministry bought many advertising spaces from you.”
