Obama, Hillary Clinton hold another secret meeting

For the third time in 10 months, President Obama and Hillary Rodham Clinton on Monday had a secret White House meeting that was not on the president’s official schedule and was revealed to reporters only after it concluded.

“President Obama and Secretary Clinton enjoy catching up in person when their schedules permit. This afternoon they met privately for about an hour at the White House and discussed a range of topics,” White House press secretary Josh Earnest said in a statement.

In December, Mr. Obama and Mrs. Clinton, who served as the president’s secretary of state for four years, met in the Oval Office. The hourlong meeting was not part of the president’s daily schedule.

Last May, the two had lunch at the White House. The lunch also was kept private and not listed on Mr. Obama’s official schedule.

Mrs. Clinton is in Washington this week and took part in a Center for American Progress roundtable discussion Monday. Given that she would be just blocks from the White House, reporters asked Mr. Earnest whether she would meet with Mr. Obama.

“I don’t have any additional details to share about the president’s schedule today, but, you know, obviously the president and Secretary Clinton have on a number of occasions since she left the State Department have had an opportunity to get together, but I don’t have any meetings to share with you from here,” he said at about 1 p.m.

It’s unclear exactly when the two met Monday.

Mrs. Clinton, the Democratic Party’s front-runner in the 2016 presidential race, remains under fire for using a private email account and server during her time as secretary of state. She maintains that she turned over all official emails to the State Department and deleted only personal messages, but Republicans are pressing her to allow an independent third party to review her server.

Mrs. Clinton has refused to turn over the server.
