A suspected shoplifter at a Wal-Mart in Mobile, Alabama, was deemed “Spider-Man” by employees after a stunning escape that involved climbing into the building’s ceiling.

The incident happened Thursday and was caught on cellphone cameras by customers watching it unfold.

Video of the man’s attempted apprehension shows him struggling with employees before being led back inside the building. As the he is ushered into a McDonald’s within the store, he manages to scale the wall and get into the duct work.

At some point, his feet smash through the ceiling closest to the exit, where he drops through the hole and sprints out of the building.

“This dude just tried to steal some shoes from Wal-Mart. He’s in the security room,” shopper Brannan Lynn said while filming the scene, a local Fox affiliate reported. “He busted — he climbed into the ceiling, and he is in the ceiling escaping. This is wow! Oh my God, this is awesome. Oh my God. The dude busted up in the ceiling. This is the craziest thing I’ve ever seen.”
