The oldest living female U.S. military veteran died at the age of 108 on Thursday.

Lucy Coffey served with the Women’s Army Auxiliary Corps in the Pacific Theater during World War Two, officials said in San Antonio, Texas.

“It is with great sadness we learned that our beloved Ms. Lucy Coffey, our nation’s oldest female veteran, passed away this morning,” the Bexar County Veterans Service Office in Texas said in a statement, Reuters reported Friday.

Ms. Coffey, a native of Indiana, served in Japan, New Guinea and the Philippines. The former staff sergeant eventually exited the military, but she continued to work as an Army civilian in Japan. The veteran retired to Texas with almost three decades of military-related service under her belt, Reuters reported.

“Her contributions to our country and community will never be forgotten,” the Bexar County Veterans Service Office added, Reuters reported.
