Former Vice President Dick Cheney is meeting Monday evening with members of the House Republican whip team, a spokeswoman for Majority Whip Steve Scalise, Louisiana Republican, confirmed.
The meeting comes several days after House GOP leaders were forced to scramble to pass a one-week extension of funds for the Department of Homeland Security after conservatives and House Democrats helped doom a three-week extension.
The department was established in 2002, when Mr. Cheney was serving under President George W. Bush. As a former congressman representing Wyoming from 1979-89, Mr. Cheney also served as minority whip for a brief period toward the end of his time in the House.
The meeting also comes on the eve of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s address to Congress.
