A parachute training exercise gone wrong killed a U.S. Navy SEAL on Wednesday.
Initial reports indicate that the parachute did not open for the sailor, who was part of a West Coast-based Navy SEAL team, CNN reported Thursday.
Firefighters and paramedics swarmed the location of the accident near Perris, Calif., but were unable to revive the SEAL. His body was covered with an American flag after he was pronounced dead.
The Navy will release the sailor’s name after the next of kin is notified, CNN reported.
An investigation into the accident is underway.
