Democratic Sen. Dick Durbin charged Wednesday that the Republicans’ decision to delay the confirmation vote for attorney-general nominee Loretta Lynch is akin to making her “sit in the back of the bus.”

“The first African-American woman nominated to be attorney general, is [being] asked to sit in the back of the bus when it comes to the Senate calendar,” Mr. Durbin said on the Senate floor, National Review reported.

“That is unfair. It’s unjust,” the Illinois senator continued. “It is beneath the decorum and dignity of the United States Senate. This woman deserves fairness.”

Ms. Lynch has been waiting for a confirmation vote to replace outgoing Attorney General Eric Holder for more than three months now, with some Democrats claiming bigotry is to blame. Majority leader Mitch McConnell, Kentucky Republican, has said he will wait to hold the vote until Democrats allow passage of a human-trafficking bill, which they have opposed over abortion restrictions, National Review reported.
