Japanese officials said Wednesday they are investigating death threats against Caroline Kennedy, the U.S. ambassador to Japan.

An English-speaking man reportedly called the embassy and threatened to kill both Ms. Kennedy and Alfred Magleby, the consul general in Okinawa.

The State Department said they would not comment on any specifics of the investigation, but said in a statement that the agency takes “any threats to diplomats seriously.”

The threats come just two weeks after the U.S. ambassador to South Korea, Mark Lippert, was attacked by a knife-wielding assailant and sent to the hospital to treat his lacerations.

And on Wednesday, both first lady Michelle Obama and former President Bill Clinton are set to arrive in Japan and attend public events in support of education. Ms. Kennedy is expected to appear with Mr. Clinton.
