Former Denver Broncos and New York Jets quarterback Tim Tebow worked out for the Philadelphia Eagles on Monday, according to multiple media reports.
ESPN was first to report the news early Monday afternoon and later reported that the team does not plan to sign Tebow at this time.
Even so, the workout could be the first step in a return to professional football for Tebow, who has started 16 games but hasn’t played in the NFL since 2012.
Tebow, 27, won the Heisman Trophy at Florida and played parts of three seasons in the NFL, including two with the Broncos, who selected him in the first round of 2010 draft. He spent last season as a football analyst for ESPN’s SEC Network, which debuted in August.
“I love doing this,” Tebow told the Associated Press at the time. “I want to do this for a long time. I love talking football and I love being around it.”
Tebow reportedly signed a multi-year deal with ESPN, but according to NFL Network, that contract included a clause that would allow him to opt out if he was signed by an NFL team.
