Sen. Rand Paul, Kentucky Republican, lobbed a new attack Monday at former Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton’s explanation for her use of a private email system as the nation’s top diplomat, saying even seemingly mundane aspects of Mrs. Clinton’s schedule shouldn’t be at risk of falling into the hands of terrorists.

“I worry that she left government records in an unsecure site, and actually she was still in possession of government records after she left government service,” Mr. Paul said Monday on Fox News. “Here’s the problem: She wasn’t obeying the law by keeping her email on a government server, and now we’re supposed to trust her that she only deleted the ones that had to do with her personal activities?”

Mrs. Clinton said she followed the rules in keeping the private email and server, and that the emails deemed personal that she deleted pertained to matters like yoga routines.

Mrs. Clinton’s office said classified material was not sent or received on the address, but Mr. Paul, who could square off against Mrs. Clinton in the 2016 presidential election, said seemingly innocuous material could still be sensitive.

“And here’s the other problem — even her calendar. She says, ’Oh, I was just going to yoga,’” he said. “Well, that’s classified because we don’t want terrorists to know [when] the secretary of state goes or where they’re going to yoga. Her schedule, which sounds mundane, is secure, and shouldn’t be over an unsecure server.”
