A Los Angeles police officer was arrested Sunday night after a Mexican man was allegedly found hiding in his trunk during a border inspection.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers stopped a 34-year-old man driving a white 2014 Nissan Juke at the Otay Mesa, California border around 6:30 p.m., a local CBS affiliate reported.

“CBP officers searched the car and found a 26-year-old man hidden in the rear cargo area,” said Jackie Wasiluk, of the CBP Public Affairs Office. “The man is a Mexican citizen with no legal ability to enter the United States.”

The driver’s name was not released, but officials confirmed he was assigned to the Los Angeles Police Department’s Hollywood division.

The officer and the 31-year-old woman sitting in the passenger seat were booked into the Metropolitan Correctional Center and will face federal charges, the CBS affiliate reported.
