The Associated Press announced Wednesday that they will sue the State Department in an effort to force the release of all the emails and other documents from Hillary Rodham Clinton’s time as secretary of state.
“The press is a proxy for the people, and AP will continue its pursuit of vital information that’s in the public interest through this action and future open records requests,” said Karen Kaiser, AP’s general counsel.
The news agency said that repeated requests for information under the Freedom of Information Act have gone unfulfilled.
A State Department spokesman declined to comment Wednesday morning.
Mrs. Clinton has been under fire from critics after it was revealed that she used a personal email account during her time as secretary of state. She said she has turned over thousands of emails to federal officials, but added that there are personal correspondences and messages that she would like to keep private.
