Former Texas Gov. Rick Perry has signed Americans for Tax Reform’s Taxpayer Protection Pledge to oppose and veto any efforts to increase taxes.

“Governor Perry understands that government should be reformed so that it takes and spends less of the taxpayers’ money, and will oppose tax increases that paper over and continue the failures of the past,” ATR President Grover Norquist said.

Mr. Perry, who is running for president in 2016, also signed the pledge as Texas governor and when he ran for president in 2012.

Other 2016 GOP presidential candidates who have signed the pledge include Sen. Ted Cruz of Texas, Sen. Rand Paul of Kentucky, Sen. Marco Rubio of Florida and former Hewlett-Packard CEO Carly Fiorina.

Mr. Norquist also offered praise for former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee, also a 2016 candidate, in light of his written pledge to oppose and veto any and all efforts to increase taxes.

Former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush, who is announcing his 2016 plans next week, has indicated he does not plan to sign such pledges, with his team saying that his record on tax cuts is clear.
