President Obama on Monday denied telling his G7 partners that a strong dollar was a problem for the world economy.
News outlets over the past 24 hours quoted unnamed French officials saying Mr. Obama told them that the “strong dollar posed a problem.” The president allegedly made the comment during the G7 meeting in Krun, Germany, which concludes Monday.
White House officials quickly threw cold water on the story and the president personally denied the allegation during a Monday morning press conference.
“I did not say that, and I make a practice of not commenting on the daily fluctuations of the dollar of any other currency,” Mr. Obama said.
