Comedian Jerry Seinfeld said Thursday that he will no longer tour at college campuses because they are too politically correct.
Mr. Seinfeld made the comments in an interview on ESPN Radio’s “The Herd with Colin Cowherd.”
He said that young people are quick to use words like “racist” and “sexist” without really knowing what those words mean and that has made it hard for comedians to do shows on college campuses.
“I don’t play colleges but I hear a lot of people tell me, ’Don’t go near colleges, they’re so PC,’” Mr. Seinfeld said, Breitbart reported. “My daughter’s fourteen. My wife says to her, ’Well, you know, in the next couple of years, I think maybe you’re going to want to hang around the city more on the weekends so you can see boys.’ You know, my daughter says, ’That’s sexist.’ They just want to use these words. ’That’s racist. That’s sexist. That’s prejudice.’ They don’t even know what they’re talking about.”
Mr. Seinfeld is not the first comedy star to complain about college audiences. Last year, Chris Rock told New York Magazine that he stopped performing at colleges because they have gotten “too conservative.”
“Not in their political views — not like they’re voting Republican — but in their social views and their willingness not to offend anybody,” Mr. Rock explained.
