The Pentagon’s final round of its DARPA Robotics Challenge is underway in Pomona, California. The 24 teams taking part are all vying for a $2 million payday.
Different versions of the ATLAS robot developed by Boston Dynamics, the Walk-Man from Italy, a four-legged RoboSimian and others are all competing for the grand prize, NBC News reported Friday.
Each robot will undergo one hour of tests designed to see just how well-suited it is to rescue victims of various disaster scenarios. Driving, stair climbing and an assortment of other tasks will be used to judge each robot’s potential, NBC reported.
The winning team will announced on Saturday.
