A Japanese passenger aboard a bullet train set himself ablaze in transit with flammable liquid, killing himself and injuring more than a dozen others.
A female passenger died of cardiac arrest in addition to the man who lit himself on fire, the Kanagawa Prefecture Police told NBC Tuesday.
“At the front of the first carriage, there was someone holding a plastic container, a one-liter container,” a passenger told Japan’s JNN, NBC reported. “[The man] poured the entire thing around… poured it over himself, and then set it on fire.”
Roughly 1,000 people were on board the train at the time of the incident, NBC reported.
