New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie assured — or warned — people in the early presidential state of South Carolina on Wednesday that they can expect to see more of him in the future.
“This is not like a one-shot deal,” he said at a town hall meeting in Greenville. “I am like the problem relative that you invite for holidays and you are hoping maybe he won’t come, and you know they’re always the first one to show up. They always come, and they always show up early when you’re not quite ready yet — that’s me.”
Mr. Christie, who is expected to announce in the coming weeks if he is running for president in 2016 or not, is currently on a multiday swing through the Palmetto State and is heading to New Hampshire later this week.
“I love coming here because you folks take this process really seriously, and the questions that you asked today are evidence of that,” he said. “And I will tell you this — anybody who wants to be part of this national conversation — you should demand they do this.”
Mr. Christie also said if he decides to run, there wouldn’t be a question of whether or not there would be some broken China in the process.
“Here’s one thing I can guarantee you: If I decide to run for president, and if I ever won, the one thing you would not have to worry about is whether some China [will] be broken in the process,” he said to applause and laughter. “There might be a day where I break a piece of China you like, and then we may have an argument about that, but you wouldn’t have to worry about whether it’d be broken or not.”
People in New Jersey could say that “they don’t agree with everything I do — but they don’t ever wonder where I stand,” Mr. Christie said.
