Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal said his state will comply, likely within a matter of days, with the Supreme Court’s decision to legalize same-sex marriage nationwide.
Supporters of the decision feared the Republican governor would resist the 5-4 ruling, which made gay marriage legal overnight in 13 states concentrated in the South and Midwest.
“Of course we’re going to comply with a court order, we don’t have a choice,” Mr. Jindal, who last week announced that he’s running for president, told NBC’s “Meet the Press.”
Mr. Jindal said his state is awaiting an order from the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 5th Circuit to make it official.
He also took shots at President Obama and Democratic presidential nomination front-runner Hillary Rodham Clinton, who gradually moved to embrace same-sex marriage in recent years as popular opinion shifted.
“My view of marriage is based on my Christian faith … My views on marriage aren’t evolving with the polls,” said Mr. Jindal, an avowed Catholic.
