Former Arkansas Gov. Huckabee, a 2016 GOP presidential candidate, pounced on the Supreme Court’s ruling in favor of same-sex marriage Friday, saying the justices cannot “repeal the laws of nature” and vowing that he will “not acquiesce to an imperial court any more than our Founders acquiesced to an imperial British monarch.”
“We must resist and reject judicial tyranny, not retreat,” Mr. Huckabee said.
The 5-4 ruling paves the way for same-sex couples to get married in all 50 states. In a statement released minutes after the ruling, Mr. Huckabee said President Obama and Congress should not “surrender in the face of this out-of-control act of unconstitutional, judicial tyranny.”
“Under our Constitution, the court cannot write a law, even though some cowardly politicians will wave the white flag and accept it without realizing that they are failing their sworn duty to reject abuses from the court,” he said. “If accepted by Congress and this president, this decision will be a serious blow to religious liberty, which is the heart of the First Amendment.”
