Former Prince George’s County State’s Attorney Glenn Ivey earned the first labor endorsement in Maryland’s 4th Congressional District race.
The support of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Engineers Local 26, a Lanham-based electrical engineers union that represents 7,500 members, was announced by Mr. Ivey’s campaign Monday.
“Glenn is laser-focused on creating good paying jobs at home and is committed to increasing the minimum wage,” Chuck Graham, president of IBEW Local 26, said in a statement. “Instead of shipping American jobs overseas, Glenn Ivey wants to invest in local projects like new school construction to put residents to work tomorrow.”
The labor union is the first to make an endorsement in the race — which has quickly become a crowded field after Rep. Donna Edwards announced she was vacating the House seat in order to run for the Senate.
Other Democrats who have announced their intention to run include former Lt. Gov. Anthony Brown, state Delegates Dereck Davis and Joseline Peña-Melnyk, former Prince George’s County Council member Ingrid Turner, and retired Army officer Warren Christopher.
Maryland’s 4th Congressional District comprises portions of Prince George’s and Anne Arundel counties and is heavily Democratic.
