A Boston man who was under surveillance by the Joint Terrorism Task Force was shot and killed by an FBI agent on Tuesday.

A senior official who spoke to NBC News said the man has been identified as Usaama Rahim.

Officials said Rahim was approached by the agent near a CVS parking lot early Tuesday morning when he pulled out a large knife. The suspect was shot and killed when he ignored orders to put down the weapon, NBC reported.

Federal and local sources said there was no threat to the public at this time, NBC reported.
