While all eyes are on Jeb Bush as he makes his announcement Monday, the real dram will come tomorrow, when Donald Trump tells the world whether he’s in or out.
The Donald hasn’t been spending much time on the campaign trail, skipping events in Iowa to hobnob with celebrities at some of his many resorts and golf courses. And his snubbing has left Iowans cool to The Donald.
In fact, most have already written off the thrice-bankrupt “mogul,” who’s catch-phrase “you’re fired” is what too many Americans have heard in real life during the six years of President Obama. Some 58 percent surveyed said they could “never” support Trump for president, according to a Des Moines Register/Bloomberg Politics Iowa poll.
The Buckeye State does skew conservative, having picked Rick Santorum and Mike Huckabee in the last two GOP caucuses. Moderates don’t fare so well — and Trump, well, no one really knows where he stands and most of the issues.
The second least-liked candidate in Iowa is another squishy moderate, New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie — 45 percent they could never support him. Just over a third of those surveyed said they could never support Jeb Bush.
Still, Trump on Tuesday is expected to announce his candidacy. After all, his TV show is on hiatus and he can always push the premiere into February — after he’s been crushed in the Iowa caucuses and the New Hampshire primary.
