The White House on Thursday mocked Sen. Lindsey Graham and said it is “hard to imagine” the South Carolina Republican ever occupying the Oval Office.

Mr. Graham, who is seeking the GOP nomination for president, is a bachelor and recently joked that he would have a “rotating first lady” in the White House.

White House press secretary Josh Earnest shot back and said it’s hard to fathom an administration without a permanent first lady.

“It’s hard, at least, to imagine this White House without this first lady. She obviously has played such an important role … advocating for the kinds of things she and the president believe should be national priorities,” he told reporters. “It’s hard for me to imagine both a Graham White House and what a Graham White House would be without a first lady. But obviously I would defer to the senator to describe what that would be.”
