Rep. Paul Ryan, Wisconsin Republican and the 2012 GOP vice presidential nominee, might not be completely done with presidential politics despite taking a pass on a White House run in 2016.
“I wouldn’t rule out running for president ever,” Mr. Ryan, who chairs the powerful House Ways and Means Committee, told The Associated Press this week. “Just not now.”
For now, Mr. Ryan has been a leading point man in the House on working to grant President Obama “trade promotion authority,” which would allow Mr. Obama to send trade deals, namely the 12-country Trans-Pacific Partnership, to Congress for an up-or-down vote with no opportunity for amendments.
Mr. Ryan, though he has become closely linked with his ambitious plans to overhaul the country’s entitlement programs, also crafted a bipartisan agreement as chairman of the House Budget Committee with his Senate counterpart, Sen. Patty Murray, Washington Democrat, in 2013 and has also said he wants to use his current post to work on tackling poverty in the U.S.
