Vice President Joseph R. Biden returned to work in Washington Wednesday, four days after burying his son Beau.

Mr. Biden resumed his duties by attending meetings at the White House Wednesday morning, followed by a private lunch with President Obama. e Vice President will attend meetings at the White House.

In the afternoon, he met with Ukrainian Prime Minister Arseniy Yatsenyuk in the Roosevelt Room at the White House.

White House press secretary Josh Earnest said the vice president and his family are continuing to go through a difficult time.

“The vice president is very dedicated to his job,” Mr. Earnest said. “We obviously are pleased that he’s able to return today and be focused again on the many difficult policy challenges that he has assumed in the role of vice president.”

Beau Biden, 46, died last week from brain cancer. He was a former attorney general of Delaware.
