Jordan Reed underwent surgery on one of his knees late last week with the hope that he will be ready for the start of training camp next month.

Coach Jay Gruden, speaking briefly to reporters at the inaugural Redskins Charity Golf Classic at Army Navy Country Club in Arlington, downplayed the significance of the procedure on the Washington Redskins tight end.

It was not clear which knee Reed injured, how he injured it and to what degree. Gruden could not remember the specifics of the operation, noting only that it was not an arthroscopic procedure.

The tight end has had issues with his left knee stemming to his final season at Florida in 2012 and has battled a variety of ailments during his time in Washington, including strains in each of his hamstrings that kept him from playing in five games last season.

Entering his third year with the Redskins, the 6-foot-2, 237-pound tight end has played in just 20 games since he was drafted. He caught 50 passes for 465 yards last season, but did not score a touchdown.
