A California artist walked 645 miles in “Star Wars” Stormtrooper gear to this year’s Comic-Con International in San Diego to raise cancer awareness.

Kevin Doyle, 57, walked from Petaluma, California, on June 6 to San Diego to honor his late wife. Eileen Doyle, 45, died Nov. 7, 2012, of pancreatic cancer after being married to Mr. Doyle for one year.

“She knew she was going to die. I don’t feel like I’ve gotten to Nov. 8. I’ve been stuck on Nov. 7,” Mr. Doyle told a CNN affiliate in San Diego. “I said ’I’m not going to let your memory die.’ “

He also raised money for Eileen Little Angels, which provides gift bags for children undergoing chemotherapy.

Mr. Doyle, who walked between 20 and 45 miles every day during his journey, said that as word caught on, people would offer him food, water and hugs, The San Diego Tribune reported July 7.

“So far, I feel like I’m so much better in the healing process than if I’d stayed home. I’m looking forward to heading back up the coast to explore a few more pockets, pull out a chair and sit for a day,” he said, the newspaper reported.
