Sen. Lindsey Graham listened to a list of grievances by a Code Pink detractor on Wednesday before calling the woman and her political allies “radical Islam’s best hope.”
CNN’s Jake Tapper and the South Carolina Republican sat silently while Medea Benjamin attempted to monopolize an Atlantic Council event on Wednesday. When the microphone was finally taken from the Code Pink member’s hand, Mr. Graham responded to his alleged “prescription for endless war.”
“I couldn’t disagree with you more. I think people like you make the world incredibly dangerous. I think people like you are radical Islam’s best hope,” the senator said, The Washington Free Beacon reported.
Mr. Graham also responded to the Code Pink member’s charge that the invasion of Iraq was responsible for the rise of the Islamic State group.
“Iraq didn’t bring on radical Islam. We got attacked on Sept. 11, 2001. We didn’t have one soldier in Afghanistan. We didn’t have an embassy. We didn’t give them one dime of aid and they hit us anyway. This is a religious war, and if you don’t understand that, you shouldn’t be president of the United States,” Mr. Graham said. “This happened long before Iraq. That’s not why we’re in trouble. It has nothing to do us fighting back.”
