ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — Police have identified the man fatally shot by a former CNN reporter at an Albuquerque motel as Tomorio Walton.
The Albuquerque Journal reports (https://bit.ly/1HAVSNy) Albuquerque Police Department spokesman Tanner Tixier says the 27-year-old had absconded from parole out of Memphis, Tennessee. He says police don’t know how long he had been in Albuquerque.
Former CNN anchor Lynne Russell says her husband, Chuck de Caro, and Walton exchanged gunfire Tuesday night after the man entered their room at a Motel 6 on Albuquerque’s western edge and tried to rob them.
Russell says Walton opened fire first and struck de Caro three times. He returned fire, killing Walton.
Tixier on Thursday said the shooting is being investigated as a homicide.
Russell told the Associated Press her husband was recovering at a hospital.
