Former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee isn’t backing off comments he made over the weekend in which he said the nuclear deal with Iran brokered by President Obama is basically marching Israelis “to the door of the oven.”

“This president’s foreign policy is the most feckless in American history,” Mr. Huckabee, a 2016 GOP presidential candidate, said in an interview with Breitbart on Sirius XM radio. “He’s so naive he would trust the Iranians, and he would take the Israelis and basically march them to the door of the oven. This is the most idiot thing, this Iran deal. [It] should be rejected by both Democrats and Republicans in Congress and by the American people.”

Critics immediately pounced on the remarks, which evoked thoughts and images of the Nazis and the Holocaust.

Democratic National Committee Chairwoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz on Sunday said Mr. Huckabee must apologize to the Jewish community and the American people for the “grossly irresponsible statement” and that “cavalier analogies to the Holocaust are unacceptable.”

On Sunday afternoon, though, Mr. Huckabee tweeted out an image with a variation of the quote, saying the deal “is marching the Israelis to the door of the oven.”
