Sen. Marco Rubio of Florida took a shot at President Obama Wednesday as he was discussing fellow 2016 GOP presidential candidate Donald Trump, saying that “we already have a president now that has no class.”
Mr. Rubio said some of Mr. Trump’s recent behavior isn’t worthy of the presidency.
“To conduct the presidency, it has to be done in a dignified way, with a level of class,” Mr. Rubio said on “Fox and Friends.” “I don’t think that the way he’s behaved over the last few weeks is either dignified or worthy of the office that he seeks.”
“We already have a president now that has no class,” Mr. Rubio said. “I mean, we have a president now that, you know, does selfie stick videos, that invites YouTube stars there, people that, you know, eat cereal out of a bathtub.”
Mr. Rubio also referred to President Obama’s Tuesday appearance on Comedy Central’s “The Daily Show.”
“You just saw the interview he did right now where he goes on comedy shows to talk about something as serious as Iran,” he said. “The list goes on and on.”
“It is important for us to have a presidency that restores dignity and class to the White House,” he said. “And I don’t believe that some of the language that Mr. Trump is employing is worthy of the office. I just do not.”
Played some of Mr. Rubio’s remarks later on the program, Mr. Trump said: “As far as Marco’s concerned, you know, he’s doing his thing, like everybody else.”
Mr. Rubio said there can be legitimate discussions on issues Mr. Trump has raised, such as veterans’ affairs and immigration, “and I think you can do it in a way worthy of the office that he’s seeking.”
“It’s a free country — anybody can run for president,” Mr. Rubio said. “And someone who is famous and has resources and access to programs like this and others has a right to run. Ultimately, voters are going to decide this.”
