Florida Gov. Rick Scott is ordering National Guard recruiters at six storefront locations to relocate to their nearest armory after the shootings at military facilities in Chattanooga, Tennessee this week.
Mr. Scott announced the order Saturday, saying he wants a review of security at the Guard recruitment centers and would possibly call for installation of bullet-proof glass at the storefronts or video surveillance equipment, the Associated Press reported.
U.S. military officials have said security at recruiting an reserve centers will be reviewed, but the Army’s top officer said it’s too early to say whether security guards should be placed at storefronts or what other increased protection could be warranted.
Meanwhile, the U.S. Navy announced Saturday that the sailor who was shot in the attack has died, raising the death toll from the Chattanooga attack to five people, AP reported.
The Navy did not release the sailor’s name, but he was identified by family as Navy Petty Officer 2nd Class Randall Smith, a reservist on active duty in Chattanooga, AP reported.
Mr. Smith’s death occurred two days after accused gunman, Kuwait-born Muhammad Youssef Abdulazeez, 24, opened fire at a recruiting center in Chattanooga, then drove several miles away to a Navy and Marine reserve center, where he shot and killed four marines and wounded the sailor before being shot to death by police.
