Reporters were surprised to discover Friday night that Hillary Clinton’s campaign had forbidden young supporters from talking to the press at a campaign event in Iowa.
MSNBC’s Jennifer Jacobs approached some of Mrs. Clinton’s supporters outside a rally for 2016 Democratic candidates but was told they could not speak to a reporter.
USA Today’s Susan Page questioned the campaign’s informal gag order on their supporters during a panel discussion on MSNBC.
“Now, why in the world would the campaign tell their own supporters who came out to campaign in favor of Hillary Clinton…these are young people, college kids, for Hillary, and they’ve been told they can’t talk to reporters. Why in the world would you do that?” Ms. Page asked, The Weekly Standard reported Saturday.
“This raises some warning flags for a Hillary Clinton campaign that is trying to control their supporters,” Ms. Page said.
“Nothing that those supporters could possibly say to the press is worse than the story of telling them not talk,” said MSNBC’s Steve Kornacki.
