Two security guards were shot and one killed Friday morning while on duty at a Capitol Heights apartment complex, according to Prince George’s County police.

The shooting occurred around 1 a.m. at the Central Garden Apartments, in the unit block of Cindy Lane in Capitol Heights. A person opened fire on the two guards as they were filling out paperwork at their security vehicle, said county police spokesman Officer Harry Bond.

Both guards, who worked for a private security company, were taken to hospitals where one died. Police have not released the name of the fatally injured guard. The other guard is in stable condition.

Police preliminarily said they are looking for only one suspect who fled the scene in a black Dodge Charger. Detectives are working to obtain surveillance video from the apartment complex and hope to release an updated description of the suspect, Officer Bond said.

Officials were unable to speculate on a motive in the shooting.
