Rapper Pitbull on Thursday called on some of businessman Donald Trump’s rivals in the 2016 presidential race to step it up and advised Mr. Trump to beware of noted Mexican drug kingpin “El Chapo.”
In Spanish, Pitbull first thanked Mr. Trump for inviting him to eat in his hotel and fly on his helicopter. He was accepting an award at Premios Juventud, a Univision awards ceremony, CNN reported.
“I had a different idea of this man,” Pitbull said of Mr. Trump. “I want to tell him, listen, I’m not a politician, I’m a musician, but most of all I’m Latino.”
He told Sen. Marco Rubio of Florida, former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush, and former Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton to “ponte las pilas,” or get going, “because Donald Trump cannot be president.”
Before exiting the stage, Pitbull also advised Mr. Trump to watch out for “El Chapo.” Mr. Trump had waged a Twitter war this week about Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzman, the escaped Mexican drug cartel chief.
Mr. Trump has defended his comments, made during his presidential announcement speech last month, that Mexico is sending some of its criminals to the United States.
Mr. Bush has said that along with Teddy Roosevelt, he might want to take the Miami-based rapper, also known as Armándo Perez, to a baseball game, and Buzzfeed has reported that Mr. Rubio is on a first-name basis with him.
