President Obama made a “get well soon” call Thursday to former President George H.W. Bush, who injured his neck in a fall.

Mr. Obama called the elder Bush, 91, “to wish him a speedy recovery,” said White House deputy press secretary Eric Schultz. “The president extended best wishes on behalf of himself and the first lady.”

Mr. Bush remains hospitalized in fair condition after he broke a neck vertebrae in a fall Wednesday at his summer home in Kennebunkport, Maine. The 41st president, who never lost consciousness, was taken to a hospital in nearby Portland.

A family spokesman said Mr. Bush is expected to be released from the hospital soon.
