Repack the confetti and defuse the fireworks, Max Scherzer versus Clayton Kershaw did not happen. But, Scherzer will still pitch this weekend when the Nationals open the “second half” of the season.

The Los Angeles Dodgers come to D.C. to start a three-games series on Friday night. Speculation was that Scherzer could pitch Friday since he did not pitch in Tuesday’s All-Star game and would be on regular rest. Instead, he was pushed to Sunday.

After his final outing before the All-Star break, Scherzer said he did not have a problem with his large workload thus far this season.

“It just takes a lot of work in between the starts, and that’s what I’m prepared to do and what I’ve been doing,” Scherzer said.

He leads the National League in innings pitched.

With Scherzer pushed back, here is what the weekend’s pitching matchups look like against the mighty Dodgers*:

Friday: Mike Bolsinger (4-3, 3.08) vs. Jordan Zimmermann (8-5, 3.22).

Saturday: Kershaw (6-6, 2.85 ERA) vs. Doug Fister (3-4, 4.08)

Sunday: Zack Greinke (8-2, 1.39) vs. Scherzer (10-7, 2.11).

* The Dodgers announced late Thursday that Bolsinger and Kershaw were switching days.
