Sen. Lindsey Graham of South Carolina said former Secretary of State and 2016 Democratic presidential frontrunner Hillary Rodham Clinton — but not fellow GOP presidential candidate Sen. Rand Paul of Kentucky — could have negotiated a better deal on Iran’s nuclear program.
“Hillary Clinton, if you think this is a good deal, you’re dangerously naive,” Mr. Graham said Tuesday on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe.” “I think she could negotiate a better deal than this. I think everybody on our side could except Rand Paul.”
“If all this becomes true, if there is no requirement for them to change their behavior regarding their nuclear program, just with the mere passage of time they can expand it, I would argue to my colleagues you’re ensuring [a] nuclear arms race,” said Mr. Graham, who frequently spars with Mr. Paul on foreign policy issues. “I would argue to my colleagues if you give them any cash now anytime soon, they’re going to put [it] in their war machine, which puts us at risk. I would argue to my colleagues that our friends in Israel cannot live with this … tell the president to go back and try to get a better deal.”
Mr. Obama said Tuesday he would veto any efforts to unravel the deal, which the president said would cut off every pathway to Iran’s gaining a nuclear weapon. Congress has 60 days to review it.
“Tell the P5+1 there’s a better deal to be had,” Mr. Graham said.
