Horoscopes don’t carry as much weight with the nation as the idea of “fate” according to a new survey. A majority of Americans, in fact, believe in fate - with Republicans ranking near the top among the demographics, surprisingly enough. The world of Leo, Libra, Gemini and the other star signs? Not so much.

“People might generally be skeptical of star signs and horoscopes, but that doesn’t mean that Americans think there is no deeper pattern to life. 52 percent of Americans say that they do believe in fate while only 29 percent do not believe in fate,” says Peter Moore, an analyst for YouGov polls, which conducted the research.

Here’s a look at all the numbers:

52 percent of Americans say they believe in fate; 61 percent of Republicans, 46 percent of independents and 56 percent of Democrats agree. 44 percent of men and 59 percent of women also agree.

30 percent overall say a zodiac star sign “can tell something about yourself or another person”; 32 percent of Republicans, 23 percent of independents and 40 percent of Democrats agree. 21 percent of men and 39 percent of women also agree.

14 percent overall say a horoscope “can tell you something about what will happen in the future”; 11 percent of Republicans, 11 percent of independents and 21 percent of Democrats agree. 10 percent of men and 19 percent of women also agree.
