J.K. Rowling, author of the “Harry Potter” books, could have used the “Diminuendo” spell to cut an Internet troll down to size recently, but she instead took to Twitter to defend tennis champ Serena Williams in a tweet that has gone viral.

Ms. Rowling was raving on Twitter in support of Ms. Williams following the athlete’s big match at Wimbledon on Saturday when a particular post drew ire from a random follower.

“I love her,” Ms. Rowling tweeted. “What an athlete, what a role model, what a woman!

It’s “ironic,” responded a Twitter user identified only as “Rob,” “… that [the] main reason for her success is that she is built like a man.”

“Yeah, my husband looks just like this in a dress,” the author retaliated in a tweet accompanying an image of Ms. Williams sporting a form-fitting red dress. “You’re an idiot.”

Ms. Rowling’s sarcastic retort has since been retweeted more than 85,000 times. Ms. Williams, meanwhile, ultimately ended up capturing her sixth-straight Wimbledon win on Saturday.
