Democratic presidential front-runner Hillary Rodham Clinton on Wednesday boasted a fund-raising total for the quarter that topped $45 million, setting a record for the most money raised by any party’s presidential candidate in the first three months of a campaign.
The tally from the quarter, which ended at midnight Tuesday, surpassed the expectation set by Clinton’s fund-raising team by more than $15 million and puts her on track to reach their goal of raising $100 million before the end of the year.
John Podesta, the chairman of Hillary Clinton’s 2016 presidential campaign, noted that 91 percent of the donations were for $100 or less. He had led the effort to rally small donors to give and demonstrate the grass-roots support for Mrs. Clinton.
In a tweet, Mrs. Clinton said that the large percentage of small donors was “a number we are especially proud of.” She signed the tweet with an “H,” which is supposed to indicate that Mrs. Clinton herself wrote the post.
“Just one thing left to say to everyone who has pitched in to support this campaign: Thank you. — H,” she tweeted.
In an email to supporters, Clinton campaign manager Robby Mook touted the record-setting $45 million haul.

“That is huge,” he said. “It’s the result of hundreds of thousands of you stepping up to stand with Hillary from the very beginning. Many people doubted whether we could build an organization powered by so many grassroots supporters. Today’s announcement proves them wrong.”
He immediately began asking for donations for the next quarter.
“But even as we celebrate this great news, we can’t get complacent,” wrote Mr. Mook. “Between now and July 15th, our opponents are required to announce their fundraising numbers, too. Some of the Republicans are rumored to have raised $100 million into their war chests, every penny of which they’ll use to tear down our campaign and strengthen theirs. So we need to keep working.”
