The Twitter handler @ScottBrownCA would have followers believe the former Massachusetts senator, Scott Brown — who later made a failed bid for another seat for New Hampshire — is now seeking retiring Sen. Barbara Boxer’s spot. But it’s a parody.
The account launched Thursday, just after Ms. Boxer of California announced her intent to retire in 2016, The Hill reported.
And one of its tweets: “Just got back from the guy, shredded on my new guitar, now just reading about @SenatorBoxer’s retirement. Interesting,” The Hill reported.
The joke is on Mr. Brown’s political career that saw him come to the Senate as a specially elected replacement for Sen. Edward Kennedy. Mr. Brown then ran for a full term against Democrat Elizabeth Warren, but lost. Months later, he moved to New Hampshire and ran for the Senate again — but lost.
Mr. Scott fielded both mocks and criticisms for moving to another state to make another Senate run. The Twitter handler for @ScottBrownCA picks up on that theme. The bio for the handle reads: “Proud to have long and strong ties to the Golden State.” And various tweets carry the joke further.
“I still think Massachusetts is harder to spell than California,” @ScottBrownCA wrote, The Hill reported. “But New Hampshire is two words, so there’s that.”
And another shows Mr. Brown and his wife pictured at the beach, above the accompanying text: “The beaches in California are the best in the world! (this is Florida).”
And yet one more tweet, The Hill reported: “My friend wants me to ask if anyone knows a good mechanic in California. My friend is wicked into his truck and thinking about moving there.”
