A female police officer shot in the southern region of Paris early Thursday morning has died.

Her colleague sustained injuries of an unknown nature, The Independent reported.

The newspaper reported that two men carting assault rifles shot at the officers after their car was involved in an accident. One fled and is at-large; the other was arrested, The Independent said.

Nearly three dozen counter-terrorism police from the raid force carrying massive weaponry arrived at the scene in five vehicles, including an armored one, The Independent reported.

The shooting comes just a day after the Charlie Hebdo satirical newspaper was attacked by suspects shouting “Allahu Akbar.” Twelve were shot and killed in that incident, described as a terrorist attack by authorities. The search for those suspects is still ongoing, although one reportedly has surrendered, various media reported.
